The Spiritual Canticle (Francis Wambugu)

Wambugu Francis Gathura (11112T)
The Spiritual Canticle by St. John of the Cross
Want to understand the spiritual
journey of John of the Cross
         St. John of the cross
He was born in Spain about the year 1542. He joined the Carmelite friars and through the influence and persuasion of St. Teresa of Avila, he initiated the reform of the Carmelite order. This led to his conflict with those in authority of the order, bringing many trials and finally imprisonment for nine months in the monastery prison. Due to mistreatment and lack of concern by his fellow religious; he died at Ubeda in Andalusia in 1591 as a result of fever and gangrenous sores on the foot. He was outstanding in holiness and knowledge as his many spiritual writings testify. He was later declared saint by Pope Pius XI in 1926.

My motive of choosing this book is for me to understand how St. John of the cross was able to experience and rise to the mystical state and understand the love that exists between humans, Christ and God through faith and prayers.
